“Last weekend saw the official debut of the biggest and baddest rock band to come out of HBS – Hostile Takeover. The band played a 2-hour gig at a sold-out Tommy Doyle’s, and covered a range of songs from artists such as The Killers, Bruce Springsteen and Guns N’ Roses.
The view from the audience was positive: “”The show was awesome”” commented Mike Lage (OB) “”it was great to see classmates head banging and rocking guitar solos instead of doing frameworks and pro formas””. Freddie Martignetti (OI) added: “”I can’t wait for the next show””.
The concert was part of a series of events around Veterans Day and succeeded in raising $255 for the New England Center for Homeless Veterans.
Hostile Takeover are: Dan McCready (OI), lead vocals and guitar; Steve Drake (OA), bass and vocals; Katie Lease (OI), vocals; and Ben Brinded (OI), drums. The band has its origins in Spring of last year; Dan and Ben offered a mock love serenade to a professor during Section I’s charity auction and the resulting performance raised over $2,200. Before long, the band had expanded to include Katie and Steve. For the finale of their first concert, Hostile Takeover were joined onstage by special guests James Matthews (OI), guitar, and Suzy Brinded (Partner), violin. The band has since recruited a new member: lead guitarist Andrew Grochal (NA).
A hugely positive audience response has led to calls for more shows. the next concert is already booked to take place at Tommy Doyle’s on Saturday 29th January. Contact Hostile Takeover for more information on future concerts and events.”
