Career Field Prior to HBS :
KPMG – Senior Audit associate
Position in Bain :
Summer Associate
Why did you choose an internship with Bain?
I chose to intern at Bain primarily because of its people and culture.ÿ The partners, managers, recruiting staff and former employees that I met throughout the job search process all came across as genuine, down-to-earth and interesting people.ÿ Other factors that made a difference for me included the internship program structure, Bain’s reputation and the firm’s ability to weather the financial crisis.
What made you decide on interning on the East Coast?
I interned in the Boston office because I am from Massachusetts and plan to start my career here.ÿ It also worked out well that Bain’s headquarters are in Boston, so I knew the office would have a lot of opportunities for interns.
Summarize your internship experience – the good, the bad and the overall.
After a week of training that included a few nights on Cape Cod, we joined our first case teams.ÿI was in the Private Equity Group, so most of my summer consisted of due diligence cases.ÿOverall, I found my teammates to be quite helpful, and I was given a good deal of responsibility.ÿ I did not have to travel at all for my cases, but I did put in some long nights at the office.ÿ The program itself was incredibly polished, organized and fun, with social events ranging from rafting in Maine to a partner-intern softball game.ÿAt the end of the summer, I was happy to receive and accept an offer to return to the firm full-time.ÿ
