MEET THE NEW SA CO-PRESIDENTS

They charmed us with their diligence, eloquence, and wit – capturing victory in the runoff vote. They promise you the Best EC Year Ever. These are things you already knew. But, did you know that Patrick is an avid fisherman? Or, that Scott spent Spring Break hiking the Inca Trail? Read on to learn the 411 on your new SA Co-Presidents.

PATRICK CHUN

1. BEST-KEPT SECRET:

I was born in Indiana in the early 80’s, likely making me one of the first Korean-American Hoosiers ever (though Purdue is the NCAA team closest to my heart).
ÿ
2. SPRING BREAK DESTINATION (and description of what it entails):

A week with 30 Section B’ers in Guatemala and Belize. It involved some (unsuccessful) spear-fishing, cold-water spelunking, Mayan ruins visits, burritos at Wild Mango, and more than any normal person’s fair share of Belikins and Gallos.
ÿ
3. SECRETS TO [election] SUCCESS:

Other than dumb luck, colorful pictures, and gratuitously large “CHUN&DAUBIN” pictures in every section? Staying true to ourselves and trusting our gut.
ÿ
4. ATOP YOUR LIST OF PRIORITIES:

Without a doubt, the top priority is to keep high-potential, dedicated HBS students involved in the SA, especially the other Co-Presidential candidates who ran extremely thoughtful campaigns and have been very helpful during this transition period. People are the secret sauce of the SA, and we need to attract the best talent for next year.
ÿ
5. LIFE’S PHILOSOPHY:

Behind the spiky hair and (annoying large) tea thermos, I’m a pretty simple guy: family, friends, integrity, In-n-Out, my iPhone, and an occasional Guinness does the trick.
ÿ
6. A LEADER YOU GENUINELY ADMIRE, AND WHY:

Sam Walton. Beyond anything else, he had an uncanny knack of simultaneously sticking to his core instincts while successfully adapting to huge inflection points during his career. Being the richest man in the U.S., and having the largest retail chain in the world named after you, isn’t too bad either.
ÿÿÿ
7. IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY JOB IN THE WORLD, YOU WOULD BE A:

Fisherman.
ÿÿÿ
8. ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD REALLY LIKE TO ADD:

I just told Scott that his “Tom Hanks from Castaway” beard is a no-go for photos (I am currently reaching out to his girlfriend to see if I can get her buy-in on this). Any thoughts?

ÿ

SCOTT DAUBIN

1. BEST-KEPT SECRET:

My father is Panamanian, and I was actually born in Panama City, Panama, making me one of the whitest Latinos ever.

2. SPRING BREAK DESTINATION:

(and description of what it entails): I just got back from Peru with six Section E’ers.ÿ We spent four days hiking and camping on the Inca Trail to reach Machu Picchu. While in Cuzco, we also sampled the local food (alpaca and guinea pig) and beverage (pisco sour) – I highly recommend both.ÿÿ

3. SECRETS TO [election] SUCCESS:

I don’t know if we had any “secrets”, but we did have three overall principles that guided our campaign. ÿFirst, we only wanted to promise things we could realistically deliver. ÿSecond, we thought the election should be about you, the students, not about us, the candidates, and third, we focused our communications around that message.
ÿ
4. ATOP YOUR LIST OF PRIORITIES:

Quick win: grant access to all residential buildings to all HBS HUIDs. ÿMedium term: help the administration organize creative and helpful events for next year’s January term. ÿGame changer: Better formalize student-to-student and student-to-professor networking with new tools on the job bank and classcards.

5. LIFE’S PHILOSOPHY:

Life is too short not to have fun – I try to enjoy everything I do.ÿÿ

6. A LEADER YOU GENUINELY ADMIRE, AND WHY:

President Jed Bartlet from the West Wing. Plagiarizing directly from Wikipedia: “Bartlet represents, in many ways, an idealized president, endowed with a fierce intellect, great (though not infallible) personal integrity, toughness tempered with essential compassion for the less fortunate, and a sense of humor.”ÿI would add that he is really good at chess and quoted things in Latin all the time.

7. IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY JOB IN THE WORLD, YOU WOULD BE:

A professional golfer, at least until I turn about 50.ÿ Then I would retire from golf (the Senior Tour is not very competitive) and become a tenured professor of Chemistry at a prestigious university for about a decade.ÿ In my golden years I would serve as an ambassador to some exotic South American country – maybe Chile or Costa Rica.

8. ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD REALLY LIKE TO ADD:ÿ

I want to be an open, approachable representative of our class.ÿ If you have any kind of criticism, complaint, or otherwise angry ranting that you want addressed, please email me at pchun@mba2010.hbs.edu.
