Thirsty for revenge against MIT, HBS’ Barbarians squad controlled the entire game and defeated MIT’s B side 19-0 with the best rugby they’ve played in two years.
With some ruggers playing their first game ever, it didn’t show as the team made great tackles, smooth passes, and smart plays. Up front in the pack where all the husky-sized men hang out, Adrian “The Enforcer” Mucalov (NJ), Steve “I refuse to wash my kit” Emerson (OE), Chris “The Haitian” Staudt (NC) and Matt “Uncommon” Commons (ND) provided solid support to our new Hooker, “Po” Tato Bustillo. Rod “I Don’t Even Go Here” Thompson chipped in as a pinch with the big fellas.
Of particular note, Andy “I can’t spell MIT” Wattula (OI) crushed the opposing forwards with his brutal head-on running style and vicious hits. The game also featured stellar play by the more fleet of foot. Mark “The Designer” Jacobs (NJ), Sam “Bam Bam” Gray (NI), and Soura “Don’t Touch the Hair” Bhattacharyya (NC) ran circles around the defenders. John “I have no internal monologue” Doran (NB) patrolled the field from sideline to sideline on defense, ensuring no one got past him while putting on a dazzling display of running showcasing his deep Irish tan on offense. Chris “Never Sober” Webster (OF) contributed baldness and a score to the effort as did Roberto “Put it down” Severin (OC) and Sunru Yong (NC).
The game ball, however, must go to Andrew “Wedding Crasher” Heffernan (OJ). His sure hands, great passes, quick feet, and most of all, his field leadership, lead to great play across the HBS backfield. After a rough season, the Barbarians ended it on a high note with a victory and strong promise for the future .
