Grade Disclosure Debate Heats Up On Campus

By now, everyone on campus has heard about the debate surrounding the issue of grade disclosure. The change being considered by the Administration is to remove restrictions put in place that prevent students from disclosing grades and prevent recruiters from asking about grades. The proposed change would affect the class of 2008 and beyond. The Administration wants to make a decision regarding the future of grade non-disclosure by mid-January, when first-round applicants are notified of their admission decision.

Although the official SA poll on grade disclosure was sent out to students on Friday, these are unofficial results obtained by the Harbus from a project done by an EC student. (Please see this week’s Viewpoints Section for a response written by HBS Section Presidents to the Administration.)

The poll asked the following questions:

QUESTION 1: Are you in favor of HBS disclosing class rank to employers?

Yes 5.5%
No 94.5%

Number of responses:ÿÿ272

QUESTION 2:
Are you in favor of HBS disclosing individual course grades to employers?

Yes 4.8%
No 95.2%

Number of responses:ÿÿ272
