On Wednesday, June 9th, one day before Graduation, the entire Class of 2004 will assemble for a period of collective reflection on their HBS experience. The ceremony will involve a formal presentation of this year’s faculty awards followed by speeches from our guest speaker and elected student speaker.
The SA Class Day Committee has announced the winners of the student speaker competition, the faculty awards poll, and the identity of this year’s faculty speaker. The committee has decided to keep the guest speaker veiled until Class Day.
Guest Speaker: Distinguished Business Leader
Last spring, the SA Class Day committee polled the class of 2004 to determine whom to invite as Guest Speaker on Class Day. From among the many distinguished leaders and potential speakers proposed, the committee is pleased to invite a very distinguished business leader back to his alma mater. Our guest speaker is not only an HBS alum, but remains actively involved in the Harvard community. He was a popular choice among our class and we are excited that he has accepted our invitation.
Student Speaker: Dan Heath (OE)
Three weeks ago, eighteen people auditioned for this honor. Almost 40 volunteer judges representing every section from the Class of 2004 viewed a three-minute sample of each of the candidates’ speeches. By all accounts, the presentations were fantastic and the competition fierce. Five finalists were selected to enter the second round of competition and the entire Class voted based on five-minute video clips. The class enjoyed Dan’s humor and wit and enthusiastically voted to hear more on Class Day. Congratulations Dan!
Faculty Awards: Andre Perold and Jan Rivkin (EC) Rawi Abdelal and Joshua Margolis (RC)
With over 750 members of the EC class voting, these fabulous professors were elected to receive this year’s Faculty Awards on Class Day. Much of the HBS experience is attributed to the hard work, dedication and commitment of the faculty. We thank you for your support and efforts and congratulate you!
Faculty Speaker: Associate Professor Das Narayandas
While graduates return to Aldrich for section reunions after the Class Day ceremony, their families and guests will be listening to Professor Narayandas, in Burden Auditorium, as he shares an account of campus life, recounts the highlights of the past year and provides a glimpse into what we all spend our time and money trying to achieve here at HBS. Not only is Professor Das our Texas Chili Cook-Off judge, but he is also an excellent and popular professor who was rewarded with tenure this year. His humor and presentation style will make him an outstanding representative of the faculty to our guests.
